Memorial 5K to honor cancer victims set for Sunday

The Memorial 5K & 1 Mile Walk, established in memory of longtime runner Jerry Musco and all those who have been affected by cancer, will take place at 9 a.m. on Aug. 9 at Johnston War Memorial Park. The 5K course, measured by Ray Nelson, starts and finishes at the park, located on Memorial Drive off Route 6. The course runs along Hartford Ave. through local neighborhoods, back on Cherry Hill Ave. and back to the park. The one mile walk is completely within Johnston Memorial Park . All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society, through the Relay for Life program, and all funds raised will stay in Rhode Island to help fund research and programs targeted to help patients.
