With the current economy threatening sports programs across the state, here's a way for runners and walkers to do their part to keep them alive in North Kingstown. Race organizers of the NK5k Road Race provide details about its upcoming race:
NK5k WINNING RUNNERS GET "BEST SEATS IN THE HOUSE"
The male and female winners of the 10th running of the NK5k Road Race & Walk to benefit NKHS Scholarships will each get to rest their weary body on an appropriate first prize -- a beautiful Adirondack chair from McKay's Furniture.
Race registration begins at 7:30 am on Saturday, September 12th at the High School track and field, 150 Fairway Drive in North Kingstown, RI. The starting gun goes off at 9:30 am sharp.
The NK5k, open to everyone from serious runners to strolling kids, features a flat, speedy course with an Olympic style finish past cheering crowds and onto the school track. The race is known throughout town for great food and prizes, and this year's will be even better.
In addition to raising over $8000 in scholarship money for worthy NKHS students, the NK5k has provided funding for the WMS and DMS track programs, WMS marching band, and NKHS boy's tennis and wrestling teams. This year the NK5k will also help fund the NKHS swim team.
Entry fees are $10 NK Student, $18 on line at needtorace.com, $18 mail-in, and $20 post entry. Mail-in forms are available throughout town.
