Thanks to their performances at this month's Amica Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island, three Rhode Islanders have qualified for the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, Fla. Andrew Kellfelz, 43, of Jamestown, finished 83rd overall and 8th among 40-44-year-olds with his time of 4:35:04 at the July 12 event. John Gadrow, 40, of South Kingstown, followed him across the finish line in front of the State House a short time later, placing 102nd overall and 11th in his division with a time of 4:38:28. And a few minutes after that, it was John Lariviere's turn, as the 42-year-old from North Scituate completed the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run in 4:41:46, finishing 121st overall and 13th in his age group. All three now have an opportunity to join the international field of more than 1,800 that will take the starting line at the in Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater on Nov. 14. |
