Here's a sign of just how generous runners can be: Race director Charlie Breagy put out a challenge to runners and walkers planning to participate in his new race - the St. Pat's 5K in Providence - that anyone who donated $10 or more to one of the charities benefiting from the 5K would receive a hat. (Proceeds from the event are going to the R.I. Community Food Bank and the Brown Kenya Program.) In the last 10 days, more than 250 people have responded to the challenge. "I am very impressed with the people of this country," said Breagy. "Even when times are tough, they step up to help. I can see the event generating at least $15,000 for charity." |
