Race director Charlie Breagy provides this update on his new upcoming race: New St Pat's 5K and St Pat's Parade off to a great start! The inaugural St Pat's 5K in Providence, Rhode Island, to be held March 21 at 11:30 a.m. is setting a record pace with entries. Over 1700 participants have already entered and there is now a possibility the race may reach the 3000 limit. All entrants will receive a race t-shirt, a finishers medallion. In addition any participants that donate $10 or more to any of the race charities will receive a custom race Reebok hat courtesy of Rhode Runner. The St Pat's 5K will also be the first race in Rhode Island to use the new ChronoTrack Systems™ D-Tag™. This system provides participants with a disposable timing device and eliminates the chip collection at the finish. The race starts and finishes at the Rhode Island State House on Smith Street at 11:30am. The start and finish is also a short 3 minute walk from the train station, so runners with access to train services can easily take the T and participate in the St Pat's 5K. There will be post race celebrations held at Patrick's Pub and Ri Ra Irish Pub. The Mews Tavern in Wakefield Rhode Island is also having a post race celebration for the Mew Tavern team which is expected to reach one hundred members. There is also a Marriott Courtyard (located next door to Ri Ra) race special for $109. The annual Providence Saint Patrick's Day parade will take place immediately following the St Pat's 5K, so plan on staying around to watch. Over 2500 people are expected to march in this year's parade. According to Parade President, this year's parade will be the largest to date. For all details on the St Pat's 5K and to register, go to www.stpats5k.com Registration will be available on race weekend if not sold out. Check website for status and details. |
