Rhode Island Running Clubs to Compete in Year-long pRIx Series
First Race - Quonset Point 10 Miler on March 1

Providence, RI - February 23, 2009 - The pRIx today announced that their year-long road racing competition will be focusing on competition between local running clubs. The competition will start with this Sunday's Quonset Point 10 mile race.

It's the Rhode Island Road Runners versus the Narragansett Running Club versus Running Heritage versus the Providence Ronald McDonald House Runners versus the Ocean State Athletic Club versus the Tuesday Night Turtles.

Teams will compete in ten races over the year with points cumulating over the year.

"We wanted to get back to what is at the core of the sport - competition", says organizer Nich Haber of Providence. "Running Clubs are fantastic for providing a social network and for encouraging people who want to get fit and stay fit. What we've seen is that once folks make running a part of their lives, they want to take it to the next level and that next level requires some competition to push them along."

Races in the competition are:
March 1 Quonset Point 10M New Kingstown
April RI State Police 5k Narragansett
June Gaspee Days 5k Cranston
June Will Speck Little Compton
July Blessing of the Fleet 10M Narragansett
Aug. Run 4 Kerri 4M Wakefield
Sept. Miriam Hospital / JCCRI 5k Providence
Sept. Ocean State XC (Men) Goddard Park
Oct PRMH Classic (Women) Providence
Nov. NewportFed Pie Run 5M Middletown
Dec. Christmas Run For Hope 10k Newport

Scoring for each race is "old school" cross country rules with the finishing places of the top 5 runners from each team added and the team with the lowest total score winning.

Runners from the community are encouraged to join their local running club and participate in the pRIx competition. More information on the pRIx can be found at www.theprix.com.
