Angela Minardi shares the story of local stroke survivor David Dansereau:

David Dansereau Joins Tedy Bruschi's Team to Fight Stroke

Falmouth, MA - David Dansereau of Cumberland, Rhode Island is running the Falmouth Road Race on Tedy's Team led by New England Patriots Linebacker and stroke survivor Tedy Bruschi. David, a stroke survivor, is running in support of all the stroke survivors that have contacted him through his website. He is also running in honor of the parents of a boy in RI who recently lost their young son to a massive stroke. David's fundraising goal is $5,000 for the American Stroke Association this year.

David had a stroke at age 39. He was in good health with no previous risk factors, although he did worry about unexplained migraine headaches. His stroke was caused by a PFO - a previously undiscovered hole in his heart that caused a clot to travel to his brain.

Last year he completed his 1st Falmouth Road Race with Tedy's Team as a message to his real stroke hero, his wife Lisa, saying "I'm back and I could not have survived without her unconditional love and support. I also wanted to show my children that daddy does indeed feel better," said Dansereau.

The completion of the road race this year will reaffirm his long term goal to expand the educational campaign he refers to as the Know-Stroke challenge (know-stroke.org) to gain national awareness and raise more funds for stroke education and prevention. To that end, he has teamed up with Tedy's Team and the American Heart/Stroke Association to help raise awareness. "There is a great need for better education and research. This is why I run. I know I am blessed to be on my way to a full recovery and it continues to be my goal to help educate others who may also unknowingly be at risk," he added.

On Sunday, August 10, the members of Tedy's Team will be motivated by their stroke heroes when they hit the pavement for the 36th Annual Falmouth Road Race. They will gather afterwards to celebrate the passion and inspiration of Tedy's Team--the runners' participation supports Tedy Bruschi's fight against stroke, and honors both the survivors and the loved ones lost to the region's No. 3 leading cause of death. The runners are taking a critical step toward raising awareness of stroke and its warning signs, as well as much needed funds for local research and educational programs.

About Tedy's Team
Join Tedy's Team to run the Boston Marathon or Falmouth Road Race while raising funds for the American Stroke Association in support of Tedy Bruschi's fight against stroke. In February 2005 at the age of 31, New England Patriot star Tedy Bruschi suffered a stroke. Having confronted stroke first hand, teaming up with the American Stroke Association became the obvious choice for Tedy's commitment to helping tackle the death and disability caused by stroke.

About the American Stroke Association
The goal of the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, is to reduce disability and death from stroke through research, education and advocacy. In its 2006-07 fiscal year, the association invested more than $152 million to fight stroke. To learn more, call 1-888-4STROKE or visit strokeassociation.org.
