Matty Siravo Memorial 5K Run/Walk for Epilepsy From my June 16, 2003 Running Notes column: When classmates approached Caitlin Floskis about doing something to honor the memory of 5-year-old Matthew Siravo, who died unexpectedly this past Mother's Day as a result of a prolonged seizure, the eighth-grader got to work. Knowing that Matthew's older brothers, Joe and Steve, run track, she immediately thought of a race. And so was created the Matthew Siravo Memorial Fun Run, to be held Saturday (rain date is Sunday) at Curtis Corner Middle School in South Kingstown. "I think it is important to do this because we need to show the Siravos how much people care," said Floskis, the Student Council president at the school. "This is just a time to show your sympathy, for people who don't know what to say to them."
