More than 1,000 runners representing 40 states will compete for $5,000 in prize money at this morning’s 2007 Amica Insurance Breakers Marathon and Marathon Relay, which bills itself as ``the smallest state’s longest race.’’ The 26.2-mile event - which features a new title sponsor and a new course - will set out from the Newport Yachting Center and travel through both Newport and Middletown before finishing at Easton’s Beach. Open to teams of two to five runners, the relay race will be held at the same time and on the same course as the marathon. Following an ekiden racing format, it will consist of five legs of 6, 6, 3.5, 5.5 and 5 miles, with team members handing off a ``tasuki’’ or cloth sash. Proceeds from the marathon will benefit the Providence Ronald McDonald House For more information, log on to http://www.breakersmarathon.org TrackBackTrackBack URL for this entry: 0 TrackBacksListed below are links to blogs that reference this entry: 2007 Amica Insurance Breakers Marathon and Relay kicks off tomorrow morning in Newport.
