CVS Caremark Downtown 5K race director Charlie Breagy posted this message on the race web site regarding the runners who went off course at Sunday's race:

A message from the Race Director.
This year some runners in waves 2 and 3 varied off the correct course and ended up running approx 4/10ths of a mile extra.
This problem occurred because the second wave of runners was delayed too long at the start and lost sight of the last runners in Wave 1.

I am really sorry this happened and I accept the responsibility for this.
I have already met with all of our volunteers involved and we have several plans for next year to make sure this never happens again.

We set a new participation record this year with 7000 entries.
I would like to thank everyone for supporting this event over the years and I look forward to seeing everyone back again next year.

A special thanks to Matt Bentley for map info.
