The Barrington Eagle Speed and Providence Cobras Running Clubs joined forces at last weekend's AAU-New England District Cross Championships, held at Fresh Pond Reservoir in Cambridge, Mass. And it proved to be a winning combination.

Fresh off her win at the R.I. Middle School State Cross Country Championships, Abigail Jones, one of the four Barrington runners competing for the Cobras that day, continued her successful season by easily winning the Sub-Youth girls 4-kilometer race, covering the 2.5-mile distance in 15:13.

Catherine Browning of East Providence was the second Cobra finisher, placing third overall in 16:04 to help the Cobras also capture the team title in that race by edging the North Kingstown Recreation Track Club.

Also contributing to the victory were Molly Malinowski (4th in 16:12), Samantha Eisele (6th in 16:24) and Daria Brayboy (11th in 17:04).

Drew Beck and Scott Clemens, two other members of Eagle Speed, both produced solid performances in their respective races. Clemens cruised to victory in the 4-kilometer Youth race with a time of 14:52, while Beck finished second by 2 seconds in the 3-kilometer Midget race, covering the 1.86-mile event in 10:30.

All of the runners have qualified to compete at the AAU National Championships, which will be held Dec. 2 in Orlando.
