Lee Lovitz of East Greenwich completed the Ford Ironman World Triathlon Championship, held last Saturday in Kona, Hawaii, in 16 hours, 43 minutes and 32 seconds.

The 61-year-old podiatrist finished the 2.4-mile swim in 1:27:02, the 112-mile mile in 7:52:26 and the 26.2-mile run in 7:03:49.

About 2 1/2 hours before Lovitz crossed the finish line, Brian Breen - a 31-year-old banker from Tinley Park, Illinois - also successfully completed the race. He competed in the Ironman as a tribute to Seekonk triathlete and Rhode Island College graduate Jonathan Blais, who has Lou Gherig's Disease.

Blais became the first person with ALS to complete the Hawaii Ironman last fall, but is now confined to a wheelchair.
