Kristin Struck and her family have a simple mission: "We want our troops that are stationed overseas to know without a doubt that we are thinking of them and hoping and praying for their safe return."

That mission, begun about two years ago, has taken the form of ``Pack It Up,'' care packages that the Strucks of Providence send to troops from Rhode Island that are deployed overseas. The packages contain simple items that offer a little taste of home - phone cards, disposable cameras, DVDs, video games, magazines, playing cards, Red Sox and Patriots T-shirts and hats, footballs, soccer balls, snacks and goodies - in an attempt to bolster morale.

And to support that effort, the Strucks will hold their second annual Rhody's Run for the Troops 5K Road Race and Kids' Races, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Bonnet Shores Community Center in Narragansett.

``The race was a tremendous success for Pack It Up last year and we had great military support,'' Struck said. ``We raised over $6,500 last year. Throughout this past year, we have expanded Pack It Up to where we now have two to three groups going at one time who receive the monthly packages. We have formed incredible relationships and have been able to meet face to face the men and women with whom we e-mailed all those months.''
