In one of her first forays at a longer distance, former Providence College standout Amy Rudolph – a two-time U.S. Olympian at 5,000 meters – placed sixth at the highly competitive 2006 Circle of Friends New York Mini 10K this morning. Running the first 5K of the Central Park course in 16 minutes, 9 seconds, Rudolph clocked a time of 32:34, making her the top American finisher. "It is a tough course and it was a good effort,’’ said Rudolph, who still makes her home in Providence. ``I might have gone out a bit fast and the first half was pretty fast. I’m still learning about'' how to compete at the 10K distance. Lornah Kiplagat held off 2005 ING New York City Marathon champion Jelena Prokopcuka, defending her title and also winning for the third time, in 31:27. Prokupcuka crossed the line 7 seconds later, followed by Gete Wami of Ethiopia in third (31:56).
